As the church prepares for its Golden Jubilee year, we welcome local identity Sister Margaret Scharf OP as our guest for the church’s 49th birthday on Sunday, October 5th.
Based at the St Catherine’s Convent community at Doubleview, Sister Margaret Scharf “is a member of the Congregation of Dominican Sisters of Western Australia, whose background includes primary education and administration, development of religious education programs, training of catechists in both Australia and the Solomon Islands. Margaret’s research and teaching interests include children’s spirituality, feminist spirituality, supervision for spiritual directors, developmental theories of James Fowler et al., and history of Christian spirituality,” (see Dominican Association website)
As an Executive Member of the Council of Churches of Western Australia, Sr Margaret is an enthusiastic participant in the ecumenical vision that we share.
This Sunday (September 28th) forms part of a process in which the worship, mission and ministry of the church is placing itself under review. The church has been a solid part of the Wembley Downs community for almost fiver decades and desires to ensure that it will continue to offer its ministry and services in years to come.
Representatives from our state resources centre will be present to assist.
What does it mean to be part of a contemporary Christian movement with a distinctive historic purpose?
Guest speaker this Sunday, September 21st, is Jim Longbottom, Director of Churches of Christ in WA Sports & Leisure Ministry. Jim has also been responsible for the Churches of Christ History and Witness component of the ministry accreditation program.
